The Sights and Sounds of Jerusalem

Tomorrow we leave for Haifa.  In 2 weeks, we have covered every inch of Jerusalem.  I wrote a few sentences about places that we have visited (with the help of our beloved tour guide and Wikipedia).

The Hebrew University is Israel's oldest university.  Our classes are being held at Hebrew University, but being taught by our Regent law Professors (Ash, Kickasola, & Sekulow) and various other speakers.  (Professor Ekonomou from Emory and Jeff Balabon from Yale).

Yad Vashem (Holocaust Museum) is Israel's official memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust.  "And to them will I give in my house and within my walls a memorial and a name (Yad Vashem) that shall not be cut off."  Isaiah 56:5.

Abu Ghosh is an Israeli Arab town west of Jerusalem on the road to Tel Aviv whose inhabitants are known for their friendly relations with their Jewish neighbors.  We had a fabulous dinner at Abu Ghosh- in fact- the chicken skewers and humus were the BEST food we have had this entire trip.

Dead Sea is an extremely salty lake between Israel and the West Bank to the west and Jordan to the east.  The Dead Sea is more than 9 times saltier than the Mediterranean Sea.  If you sit down and pick up your feet in the Dead Sea, you will float.  There's no way to sink in the Dead Sea- it's just that salty.

We have also visited:  Hezekiah's Tunnel, Wailing/Western Wall, Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, The Shrine of the Book at the Israel Museum, Qumran National Park, The Green Line, the Old City, Rabbinic Tunnel, the City of David, the Military Court in the West Bank, Masada, The Church of the Holy Sepulcher, Knesset (met a Parliament member), Ammunition Hill, The Garden of Gethsemane, The Church of the Nations, The Dome of the Rock, the Russian Orthodox Church, the Supreme Court of Israel (met the Chief Justice Rubinstein and heard 2 terrorism cases!), the Garden Tomb, Mount of Olives, Mount Zion, Saint Anne's Cathedral, Menachem Begin (meeting a 1981 pilot and the former ambassador from Israel to the US) and Via Dolorosa.
